2011 - Feb 23rd - Took the Trek 520 out to Hampton
then up to Simerly Creek, over to Limestone Cove, up to Unicoi, back via Okolona, Milligan hwy and home.
A great 37 miler and my longest this year - got in 198 miles in Jan and so far, 138 in Feb. More to come...
November 30th - Got lazy and did not post rides for Oct & Nov - woe is me for my procrastination. Anyhoo, the last day of the month was nice enough for me to get out on the Trek & ride over to Piney Flats bike shop and back home...complete with fenders and panniers and seat bag on the Trek - loved it. It was a great 28 miler.
September 29th - Rode G St to Slagle's Pasture and all the way past Ridgewood to 19E and over to Bluff City, up through town and back out to Bunker Hill and back to 19E, Slagle's Pasture and home - good 30 miler.
September 25th - Pink Ribbon Ride - 50 miler - rode with James, Chris and others. Great ride and weather. Almost a 16 mph average (15.8)
September 24th -Rode from home with George and Ben and rode Gap Creek, Simerly Creek, Iron Mtn, Limestone Cove, Unicoi, Okolona, Milligan, home.
Great 44 miler ride!
September 23rd - Rode from ETSU and did 27 mile Buffalo loop.
September 18th - Best riding month so far - 340+ miles so far - rode out through Lynn Valley to Hunter area and turned around and back same way., again on Trek 520.
September 10th - Best ride yet on Trek 520 - rode to Elk Park, NC via 19E and Bear Cage rd (otherwise known as Railroad grade) and back to start of Gap Creek - had to stop due to oncoming rain - Karen picked me up there. Got a good 45 miler in, w/o rain it would have been 55.
September 4th - Rode the Trek 520 (again) from home to Milligan to Okolona to S Roan to Unicoi to Limestone Cove to Simerly Creek to Gap Creek to home - great weather - great 37 miler - 12% grade on Sim Creek - got a couple of good pics of Limestone Cove and neat covered bridge past Wiseman's on S Roan....perfect example what bike touring ought to be.
August 16th - Got out on the Trek 520 and rode toward Shady Valley - got to the Chapel where we used to start our 62 mile Shady ride and turned around there - just too hot - got in 31 miles and the bike did great. Got back before noon - I see why Bill Rogers used to get up at the crack of dawn now - so we could get back before the heat hit and still have a lot of the day left.
August 15th - Rode the Trek 520 for a 20 miler today after Church - rode out and crossed the new bridge near Wilbur in place of the old one that used to be there -I miss the old one, although the new one is a lot safer and better - just something about the old classic bridge that was always very picturesque.
August 12th - Got in a good 27 miler today - rode out Milligan to Okolona to Bishop to Cherokee in JC and over to top of Buffalo, turned around and back same way.
August 11th - Another good 20 miler out to Okolona seven and half miles down S Roan and back home after that.
August 9th - Rode Okolona again (25 miles) and out almost to Sciotta in Unicoi, turned around and back home.
August 8th - Rode to Okolona then toward Laurels to Dry Creek, turned around there and back to Powder Branch and home from there - no lab chased me today but was ready for him with my Halt. Glad I did not have to use it. Good 21 miler.
July -270 miles this month - Best riding took place in Hilton Head from 7-23 - 29th where Karen, Allison and I vacationed. Great riding paths that go on and on and on.....

June 23 - Got out and rode 19E over to Siam and over near Wilbur Dam & back through Linn Valley - to check out new cassette and new computer on bike. Good 20 miler.
June 20th - Rode Gap Creek to Big Springs to Powder Branch to Laurels to Sciotta to Unicoi to Okolona to Milligan to home - good 28 miler.
June 14th - Rode out to Hampton, Simerly Creek, Limestone Cove, Unicoi, Okolona, Milligan, home - good 37 miler.
June 11th - Rode out to Bunker Hill, out Hickory Tree and over to climb S Holston Dam - back same way. Good 42 miler that would have been 50 but had wife pick me up due to heat.
June 7th - Rode with Randall J and Jerry R, leaving from the latter's house and we did the 34 miler. Great ride and great time to be back on the Jonesboro and JC country roads.
May 31st - I got in 343 miles this month with climbing Iron again on the 15th. I also rode over to Limestone Cove a couple of times this month - always a good ride. Also got to ride the annual Pedalfest ride in Elizabethton (25 miles) which took us up to Watauga past Wilbur and back partly Siam on roads I had not ridden - good roads.
April 30th - I got in 445 miles this month climbing over to Limestone Cove near the end of the month and also climbing Cross Mtn (Shady Valley) on the 28th - turning around @ top and heading back down. On the last day of this month George and I rode through Gap Creek and Simerly Creek and left up to top of Iron, then back down and through Unicoi and Okolona back home - great ride and great month of riding.
March 31st - Suffice it to say I got 182 miles this month but April would be more than twice as productive (See above)

March 30th (Tue ride) Rode to Milligan to Okolona to S Roan to Unicoi to Limestone Cove to Simerly Creek to Gap Creek to home - good 35-miler ride.
March 28th (Sun ride) Rode out 19E toward Hampton - left on Siam road which took me out near Wilbur Dam; A right turn and then a left which took me across the bride and out by the river and up to the Hunter community and Stoney Creek road - left there and left again at light which took me out Linn Valley and onto town and G st and back home. Great 20-miler ride on the Cannondale.
March 27th, 2010 (Sat ride) Rode out Milligan to Okolona and left on S Roan and out to Unicoi and past Sciotta toward Limestone Cove to 15 mile mark, turned around and back home. Not my first ride this year, but so far, my longest - 30 miles.
October 11th, 2009 (Sun ride) Rode out Milligan to Okolona and left to Laurels, turned around @ Dry Creek and came back and left again on Okolona and out S Roan toward Unicoi and turned around out there and rode back home. Great weather - great ride!
July 28th (Tue ride) Drove to Roan Mtn Visitors Center and climbed up to Carvers Gap and back. Good climbing but hot!
July 26th (Sun ride) Rode home from Elk Park, NC where we went up for an annual family gathering called Decoration. Took me a little over an hour and a half to do the 29 miler but what a great ride - 19E, Bear Cage Rd(i.e., railroad grade) and Gap Creek.
July 25th (Sat ride) Got behind on my rides here and fortunately since the 11th, got in almost 200 miles total with several 6 or 7 days in a row of riding. Got in 10 today but as always, they all add up. Hope to ride back from NC tomorrow, pending good weather.
July 11th (Sat ride) Got in a quick (for me) 10 miler, since it has been a week since I've ridden. Felt like I was riding in the Tour :0 sort of.
July 4th (Sat ride)
Got out early before the tour stage and got in a quick 10 miler - got back out and had a great 35 miler to Limestone Cove and back before the stage race was over. Go Team Astana!
July 2 (Thurs ride)
Rode out to Hampton to Gap Creek turnoff and turned around there - quite windy; Got in 10 miles earlier, riding out to visit Shadow's brother and mom.
June 27th (Sat ride)
Rode solo out to Gap Creek to 19E and took this to Simerly Creek and out to shortcut over to climb Iron Mtn, and after ascending then descending, came back Unicoi, Okolona, Milligan hwy and home. Hot ride!
June 23rd & 24th (Tues&Wed rides)
Rode out to Slagle's Pasture to hwy and then to old Eliz hwy to Walnut Grove to Bunker Hill and back to hwy, Slagle's Pasture and home; Rode out 19E to Siam and took that to Wilbur Bridge, Stony Creek, Linn Valley & home - later, George & I rode from home to Taylortown rd, Central Comm, Smalling rd, Sycamore Shoals rd, Watauga, Roan St, McArthur rd, G st and home.
June 20th (Sat ride)
Paul and I met Jerry at his home and we did a good 27-miler. A little hot and sometimes windy but it was so good to ride with these guys again (Front cover of this blog). Until we ride again....
June 13th (Sat ride)
Met a friend here at home and two others and we rode over and climbed Iron - I suffered on this ride - legs were not cooperating - did make it up the mtn and cramped once on the way home - but all in all, a great 45 miler and very good ride with great company.
June 12th (Friday ride)
Got in 10 short miles out toward Watauga road then later met George off Linn Valley and rode to Wilbur and came back via Siam - good 23 miler & great company.
June 9th (Tuesday ride)
Got in 10 short miles in the am and then got out and rode 20 miles in the pm before dark (Hampton and back) and actually had a good average.
May 7th (Thursday ride)
Larkey and I left from my house and headed out to 19E to Hampton and to Simerly Creek and over to Iron Mtn - came back via Unicoi, Okolona, and Milligan hwy and home - great 45 miler!
April 28th (Tuesday ride)
Got out today and got a 25 miler in (after mowing the yard). This was out Gap Creek to 19E and up to the Simerly Creek turn off and back home via Hampton. Great ride.
April 27th (Monday) ride
Headed out Gap Creek to 19E and up to Simerly Creek and out to Limestone Cove - was thinking of climbing Iron but not only was it too hot, but I suffered on the bike for 10-15 minutes before finally able to answer nature's call at the service station in Limestone Cove. As always, enjoyed the downhill of Unicoi highway, out to Okolona and Milligan hwy and home. Really enjoyed this 35 miler - after Limestone Cove. :)
April 16th (Thursday ) Ride
Paul and I met at his house around 5pm and got in a good 22 miler. Wonderful weather and great company. What can I say?

On Friday afternoon, We met at Jerry Redmond's at 4:30 to ride from his house - We rode the 27 mile loop. Randall Justice did join us.
